Celebrating The Future: Sam Jones,
Young Irrigation Professional of the Year 2025
A highlight of our annual awards program is celebrating the young talent shaping the future of the irrigation industry, and this year was no exception.
We were proud to recognise the recipient of the Think Water Young Irrigation Professional of the Year Award for 2025—Sam Jones from Think Water Capes Region.
The Young Irrigation Professional of the Year Award recognises up-and-coming irrigation professionals across the Think Water Australia and New Zealand network. It celebrates those who show initiative, technical excellence, and a genuine passion for the industry — individuals already making a meaningful impact early in their careers.
Sam has shown exceptional skill, curiosity, and commitment to outstanding customer service, setting a high standard for others to follow. Our award recipients represent the very best of emerging talent, proving they not only excel in their roles but also inspire those around them.
“Sam joined Think Water Capes Region in September 2023 and has quickly become an integral and inspiring member of our team,” says Tom Pollard, business owner and company chairman.
Currently studying his Certificate III in Irrigation through Irrigation Australia, Sam is committed to developing both his technical knowledge and industry skills. He is already leading the installation of reticulation systems, overseeing projects from planning and mapping through to trenching, installation, testing, and ongoing maintenance.
Sam ensures strict adherence to safety standards, effectively manages his team on-site, and maintains clear, consistent communication with clients throughout the entire process. Sam is also responsible for quoting jobs and working closely with clients to recommend system modifications or upgrades. His professionalism, attention to detail, and proactive communication ensure clients are always well informed, involved, and confident in the work being carried out.
Outside of work, Sam shows the same passion and integrity through his humanitarian efforts. Each year, Sam volunteers with the Tangaroa Blue Foundation on Christmas Island, helping remove and record plastic debris from the coastline. His work contributes valuable data to the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI), supporting national environmental solutions.
Sam is not only highly skilled but also a natural leader. Whether in the field, workshop, or office, he collaborates easily and earns respect through his positive attitude, work ethic, and commitment to doing things right. He embodies the Think Water values of leadership, initiative, and sustainable water management. Sam is a true future leader and deserving award winner.
The decision to recognise Sam was reinforced by glowing customer feedback:
