When it comes to irrigation design, few people in New Zealand carry the reputation and experience of Grant Clifford.
With over 33 years in the industry, Grant has spent the past 18 months at Think Water Marlborough making a big impact. Not just through his exceptional designs, but through the commitment, knowledge, and professionalism he brings to the team. It’s no surprise he’s been named the 2025 Think Water Designer of the Year.
Grant isn’t the kind of designer who cuts corners or chases jobs purely on price. His philosophy is simple: every system should perform flawlessly, last the test of time, and give clients true value. From small residential setups to large vineyard irrigation projects, pumps, farm stock water, and irrigation systems, Grant’s designs are meticulous, innovative, and thoughtfully future-proofed. Every detail, down to the last washer, is carefully considered to ensure efficiency, reliability, and long-term savings for the customer.

Even on weekends, it’s not unusual to spot his vehicle tracking up a valley. For Grant, it’s not about clocking off at 5 pm; it’s about ensuring the job is done right and the customer is satisfied.
Grant is also always willing to provide advice. He works closely with the Marlborough team, sharing his extensive knowledge, offering guidance, and helping colleagues grow. His presence brings certainty from learned design experience with what to do and what not to do, and when a customer is genuine and worth the time assessing and quoting their enquiries.
The numbers back it up, too. In his first year with Think Water Marlborough, Grant brought in a large portion of the company’s revenue, including high-profile projects such as the 100-hectare solid-set irrigation system that was nominated for Project of the Year. Beyond financial results, Grant’s influence has strengthened customer relationships, enhanced the skills of the team, and reinforced the high standards Think Water is known for.
